Legal and protection
Financial Protection & Insurance Requirements
Two different things protect you on this trip. One is our responsibility and one is yours. This page sets out both, in plain English.
Your holiday, protected.
We are a UK registered company, and your safari is a package holiday under the Package Travel Regulations 2018. That means the law requires every penny you pay us to be protected. If we ever became unable to trade before your trip, you would get your money back. If it happened while you were already in Botswana, the cost of finishing your safari and getting you home safely would be covered.
You do not need to think about any of this again once you have booked. It sits behind the scenes, doing its job.
The cover itself is arranged through All Seasons Underwriting Agencies Ltd and underwritten by Evolution Insurance Company Ltd, policy number 2538912993, should you ever need the details. Confirmation of cover is available on request.
How you pay.
We do not take card payments online and there is no checkout on this website. A 25% deposit confirms your place, and the balance is due 90 days before departure. Both are paid by bank transfer to our UK business account. Full payment terms are in our Booking Terms.
What this protection does not cover.
It covers us becoming unable to trade. It does not cover you cancelling, falling ill, or anything happening to you. That is what travel insurance is for, and it is why we ask for it.
Your flights are not part of the package. You book them directly with the airline or your own agent, so they sit outside our protection and under that airline’s own terms.
Travel insurance is on you.
The one thing we ask in return is that you arrive properly insured. Comprehensive travel and medical cover is a condition of booking, not a suggestion.
Your policy needs to include, as a minimum:
Emergency medical expenses of at least US$1,000,000, including emergency evacuation by air and repatriation
Cancellation and curtailment cover for the full value of your safari
Cover for the activities on this trip, specifically open vehicle game drives and mokoro excursions
Cover valid for Botswana, including remote areas
Take your policy out when you book rather than later. Cancellation cover only runs from the day the policy starts, so a policy bought a month before departure will not protect a deposit you paid a year earlier.
Send us your insurer’s name, your policy number and the policy’s 24 hour emergency contact number no later than 60 days before departure.
Why we ask.
Moremi is remote. Medical facilities out there are limited and the nearest hospital is in Maun. That is not a reason to worry, it is a reason to be properly insured before you arrive.
Any questions.
If you are unsure whether a policy meets these requirements, send it to us before you buy it and we will tell you. And if you just want to talk any of it through, get in touch.
